Inauguration of President Chen May 2004

In May 2004, a further delegation of parliamentarians from the All-Party Parliamentary British-Taiwanese Group, travelled to Taiwan to attend the inauguration of President Chen on May 20th.

President Chen Shui-bian, aged 53, of the Democratic Progressive Party, had been re-elected in March 2004 for a second four-year term of office by a razor thin margin a day after a gunshot attack that slightly wounded him and Vice President Annette Lu.
